Plank Grilled Salmon & Steelhead Recipe

It’s easy to plank grill Salmon & Steelhead & the results are delicious. Be creative & pick some of your favorite ingredients:
- Garlic, chives, parsley, butter
- Garlic hickory rub
- Tom Douglas Salmon Rub
- Chili Spice mix, with Lemons
- Dean & Deluca 5 Chili blend rub
Plank Prep
- Soak Plank in water, min. 1 hour, max. 24 hours
- Preheat plank on grill at medium heat 5 minutes
- Brush plank with olive oil on cooking side
- Place Salmon or Steelhead fish skin side down on center of plank
- Direct Heat Grilling:
Use the grill on a low heat setting. Place plank in center over heat source. Close lid to infuse the fish with the smokey flavor of the plank. After smoking begins after 15-20 minutes, check regularly for flare ups. Use a small spray bottle if necessary. It’s OK to let the plank catch fire, just spray it out quickly. - Indirect Heat Grilling:
Use the grill on a medium heat setting. Place plank to the side of heat source. Close lid to infuse the fish with the smokey flavor of the plank. After smoking begins after 15-20 minutes, check regularly for flare ups. Use a small spray bottle if necessary.
When grilling multiple planks, be sure to leave a 1″ space between planks to allow the aroma to circulate. Also, experiment with the different flavorings that different woods impart.
